Midwich has acquired Wokingham-based auto ID distributor Synergix to bolster its own division and presence in a market that has captured the imagination of a number of IT wholesalers.

Founded in 1988, Synergix sells auto ID, mobile computing and data collection technologies and offers services that include repairs, maintenance and technical support to resellers.

In October, Microscope revealed that Midwich had launched an auto ID division to stake its claim for the market and it will be amalgamated with the Synergix business that it has acquired – to be run as Synergix. .

Alex Ward, commercial director at Midwich, said Synergix would provide it with more specialist staff and a range of technical support services to offer resellers and a raft of new customers.

“We have identified that there is very little crossover of customers between the two companies – and a large number of potential customers with which neither business trades currently,” he said.

In the year to December 2006, Synergix achieved revenues of £7m and made a retained profit of £96,000, taking out a dividend of £22,000.

Graham Fenton, current managing director at Synergix - will continue in his role – said despite its level of knowledge and technical skills, “the company’s lakc of scale has precluded it from a number of larger roll outs in the industry.

“The deal we have agreed with Midwich gives us the strength and support needed to win more of these larger deals, whilst maintaining our specialist skills and operational independence,” said Fenton.

In the last two years Midwich has made a string of acquisitions including AV distributor True Colours in April 2006 and Owl Visual Systems in February this year.
