Resellers in the general hardware market and consumer electronics are going to have a tough year next year but those operating in the mobility space should see the market expand.

According to the latest IT and Telecom distribution in the UK report from CompuBase the downturn will not be across the board.

CompuBase predicts that resellers of IT equipment will see a decrease of 1.2% in total market value, consumer electronics will drop by 100% next year but mobility will expand by 2.2%.

In spite of the negative picture, some dynamic niche markets such as security, virtualisation and storage continue to expand,” stated the report.

The survey revealed that the number of resellers in the UK that describe themselves as value added is more than half at 52% and many have made the transition to a business based on services margin.

It also threw up evidence of a shift in distribution away from the traditional stomping ground of the South East.

“The distribution of ICT players by region shows that there are more regional growth poles today, and reveals the slow but steady delocalisation from London and its surroundings towards the regions,” the report stated.
