Apple has offered subscribers to its MobileMe email service free access after admitting it had not handled the transition from the .Mac service particularly well.

In an email to subscribers the vendor offered users 60 days free service, after already having given away 30 days, making a total of three months.

“We are giving every MobileMe subscriber a free 60 day extension. This is in addition to the one month extension most subscribers have already received,” an email from the MobileMe team stated.

“We know that MobileMe's launch has not been our finest hour, and we truly appreciate your patience as we turn this around,” the mail continued.

One user said that the three months was a welcome move to the service which costs around £60 a year and most of the disruption had been to online and first started to appear with logging on problems last month.

“Three months is very generous and no one is going to complain with that but it is unusual for something to go wrong like this with an Apple service,” he said.
