Former French finance minister linked with Alcatel-Lucent vacancy

 Former French finance minister Thierry Breton is being tipped to replace Patricia Russo running Alcatel-Lucent.

 

The resignations of chief executive Russo and chairman Serge Tchuruk was announced yesterday.

 

Breton has previous form in the telecoms industry with a former position as chief executive of France Telecom before he joined the government in 2005.

 

Russo will leave at the end of this year and Tchuruk will step down in October, Shareholders had criticised Russo for her handling of the merger with French operation Alcatel with American telco operation Lucent. The vendor reported a net loss of 1.1bn Euros for its second quarter yesterday.
