Hewlett-Packard has joined forces with Sainsbury’s to kick
off a PC recycling scheme in London.
The retailer is running a one-off trial in its Nine Elm
store in Vauxhall this Saturday offering to take back a host of old products ranging
from desktops, laptops, scanners and printers.
HP is then taking away the product to be recycled at a
specialist plant removing the hassle and potential cost from the user.
A spokeswoman for HP said the vendor had a policy of take
back recycling events and had carried some out in the past and if this trial
proved successful it would look at extending the initiative to other stores and
locations.
In a statement, Sainsbury’s environmental affairs manager,
Alison Austin said that it made recycling convenient for customers.
“Instead of having to drive out of their way
to recycle, they can drop their old equipment at the Vauxhall store before
their weekly shop. This saves time and helps the environment, and we’re
expecting to see some real IT relics from the past come to the store," she said.
