Microsoft is considering developing a reseller group to
support its entry into the mid-market sever space.
The vendor has taken the wraps off its Enterprise Business
Server line complementing its Small Business Server products and could develop
a dealer network along similar lines of the Small Business Specialist Community
(SBSC).
Gareth Hall, Windows server product manager at Microsoft,
said that it operated in the small business space and in the enterprise market
but had not formerly produced something specifically for the mid-market.
“We are completely committed to the mid-market space and we
will continue to work with partners to build a community in that space,” he
said.
Microsoft is encouraging resellers to target mid-sized
companies that are either using inadequate legacy systems or have purchased
enterprise level products that do not necessarily fit directly with their
needs.
“Some of the older less configured will not be well
optimised as time goes on. EDS is a good opportunity for a partner to come in
with a well managed solution,” he added that resellers could also promote the
cost savings that resulted from buying the package rather than individual
component parts.
The vendor is combining EBS and SBS under the umbrella brand
of Windows Essential Server Solution (WESS) combining the Small Business Server
2003 and EBS.
