Email and calendaring software developer PostPath is to
become the latest addition to Cisco’s line-up after agreeing to be bought for
$215m.
PostPath spreads its operations between its California
headquarters and a development centre in Bulgaria, and will be folded into
Cisco’s Collaboration Software Group (CSG) to enhance the existing capabilities
of Cisco’s WebEx Connect collaboration platform – itself the result of a recent
acquisition.
“The acquisition complements our strategy to develop an
integrated collaboration platform designed for how we work today and into the
future, providing real productivity gains and a more satisfying user
experience,” said Doug Dennerline, Cisco CSG senior vice president.
PostPath’s Linux-based software is interoperable with other
email solutions and mobile clients. Happily for Cisco, it also incorporates Web
2.0 architectures, slotting neatly into Cisco’s headlong rush at the social
networking world.
