Following his departure from Hewlett-Packard in June, industry veteran Dominic Webb has joined Samsung to head up its UK display division and is relishing working for a vendor that does not face the “daily” conflict of managing a hybrid sales model.
The previous incumbent Gary Cove had spent six months in the role at Samsung but left the business to join an IT start-up, amid suggestions from industry sources that he was unable to settle in with the culture at a large Korean vendor.
As general manager for displays Webb said it would place specific emphasis on the digital signage market, “The plan is to drive the business forward particularly in large format displays, we have had some success in Terminal 5 with 90” screens,” he said.
UK distributors stocking Samsung’s displays include Computer 2000, Westcoast and Midwich and there are no plans to drive through any changes, he added.
Webb started at HP as an engineer 19 years ago and prior to leaving the firm in the summer was workstation sales manager for the UK. But he said it was time to work for a IT giant that operated solely through channel partners.
“It is nice to be working for a vendor that has a solid channel strategy, it’s quite refreshing, the daily conflict that comes from working at a hybrid has gone away,” he told Microscope.
