Business communications
specialist Colt Telecommunications has named Nokia Siemens Networks and Sonus Networks
as key suppliers to the first stage of its next generation network (NGN)
project.
Nokia and Sonus will supply
technology for the multi-service platform layer (MSP) and an
application-enabling Softswitch layer respectively.
Colt launched the first
phase of its NGN rollout today as it works towards combining its network and 18
Europe-wide datacentres into a single virtualised system, an operation it
believed will offer customers a simpler and better performing comms and managed
services package.
For the time being, the MSP
will only be available to Colt’s customers in Frankfurt, London
and Paris, with
a phased roll-out planned over the next 12 months.
Colt CEO Rakesh Bhasin
hailed a “milestone” in the company’s NGN services proposition. “This will …
enable our customers to take advantage of the performance benefits of the new
technology from today,” he added.
