End point security fears

Concerns about end point security continue to cause sleepless nights among corporates facing the pressure to allow greater access to remote services.

The latest evidence of customers’ worries came from a FutureSoft and Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) survey, which revealed that large numbers of organisations fear employees will undo any endpoint security measures.

The survey found that 73 per cent said employees were a higher than average risk but a third of companies made no effort to block staff from peer-to-peer sites and other personal VoIP services.

To compound the problem the survey showed that 76 per cent of companies did not have any tracking technology to monitor potential breaches.

Meanwhile, Check Point has taken the wraps off the latest version of its end point product in a bid to prevent data breaches, information theft and hacking attempts.

Caroline Ikomi, technical director at Check Point, said that it was a growing concern for customers that were looking for a way of securing the end point. She pointed out that analysts had predicted the market would grow significantly in the next few years.

"This is our first step and there will be two more significant releases this year in this market," she explained.

"It is a big area and it is a good market for the channel because it allows them to cross sell into other areas including government and enterprises."
